Because I am a cheapskate, I never buy full games. Ever. Hence I have
only played the demo of POD and hence have only raced on two tracks. Of
these two I only really race on one: Alderon. Obviously I only race on
hard and I race hard. Here are some of my records:
This is still my record for fastest time a six lap race
on Alderon. I did not win this race. This is because to win a race on Hard
you have to block the other cars and take silly lines. If you get lucky,
and the other cars all do exceptionally well, this is the best time to set
records. One of the annoying things about being as good at POD as I am
is that after about four laps you come up to lap some of the computer
cars who are less good than you. And they just get in the way! Consequently
it is easier to set a record by only having two cars in the race. Some
people, including me, regard this as cheating, but it is still a useful
tip. It comes in especially handy if you are going to advertise your records
on the Web and you want them to look as good as possible.
At this point there is a dilemma. Which is more pointlessly impressive? Obviously there is the picture which shows I have wasted many hours of precious time trying to win on Hard. The time isn't even that special, but hey, you get an amazing rush coming out of that tunnel on the final lap in the lead and just praying you don't screw up the landing. Or is it more exciting that I have squeezed this page into as small a space as possible even though, paradoxically, the file size is bigger as a result?
